Houses of Parliament

Students with an interest in politics can become MPs within the TSR House of Commons where they can create, debate and vote on Bills with other MPs representing different political views. Bills then pass into ‘law’ just as in real Parliament.

The TSR laws passed aren’t real, it’s all done for a bit of fun, but thats not to say debate doesn’t get heated!

We currently have the following parties represented:

  • Conservatives
  • Labour
  • Liberal Deomocrats
  • Libertarians
  • Monster Raving Loony Party
  • Socialists
  • An independent party

Every 6 months TSR House of Commons holds a General Election to determine the number of MP seats each party can have.

Any TSR member can vote to determine which party will have most seats and therefore most influence, and there’s currently an election taking place! Make your TSR election vote count

TSR parties generally carry the same morals and views as their real life counterpart but may enact things differently.

How can you get involved in all of this?

  1. Vote in the current election
  2. Become one of the 50 MPs with voting power within the TSR House of Commons
  3. Join one of the political parties, get access to their private forum and influence policy and debate
  4. Just come by the House of commons forum and get involved in the debate

If you have any questions regarding the House of Commons or the General Election send a PM to daniel_williams The Speaker of the House of Commons :)

in TSR News

Barack thanks TSR users

Yesterday a massive 1321 students voted in the TSR US election

The result was very decisive:

86.30% – Barack Obama
8.78% – John McCain
4.92% – Other candidates/parties

The result was announced at midnight last night with discussion going on throughout the night as real election results came in – Official US election discussion thread

Students this side of the pond have been inspired to get involved with the debate like in no other election and The Student room reflected that with record traffic to the site.

93,254 visits on election day – Our 2nd biggest day ever!

The TSR House of Commons election is also currently underway, go have a look at the party blurbs and cast your vote here: The Student Room House of commons voting page

A new classifieds forum was launched on TSR last week:

Cheap textbooks in the TSR Classfieds forum

It’s a feature moderators, members and admin and been asking for and considering for ages, years in fact, and now it’s finally happened.

At the moment it’s only academic resources that can be sold, so textbooks, CD Roms, etc. but this may be extended to other things at a later date depending on how well it takes off.

Congratulations to the mod team for putting together the guidelines for posting and generally coordinating the whole thing. Classifieds forum guidelines and safety tips

Go grab yourself a bargain!
